This is Michel Hazanavicius’ first animated film
Line of Events
During wartime, a poor lumberjack and his wife live in a large forest. One day, a woman finds and saves a little girl, which brings irreversible changes to the lives of the couple and those whose paths the child crosses.
So far, this is the best 2024 premiere I’ve seen this year, and we’re in mid-December 2024
It tells a story that takes place in Poland during World War II, almost like a popular story. Most of the plot takes place in the forest, which is typical of the popular stories mentioned above, and revolves around a couple of lumberjacks who adopt a Jewish girl who was thrown off a deportation train that passed through their forest.
From a technical point of view, everything is done perfectly
Her father threw her out to save her from certain death in Auschwitz. I won’t go into further details of the plot so that you can see for yourself, I just want to add that the film will reach a deeply philosophical conclusion.
The visual effects of the film are brilliantly done
The drawing style is just right, not too detailed or too rough, mainly showing scenes in low light with dominant shades of gray, thus highlighting the horrors of the most infamous war and mass extermination in human history. And then there is the soundtrack, which is sublime: music, sound effects, narration and dubbing (I saw the original version in French), everything is fully capable of presenting a gem of a film.
